World Spay Day

February 27 All day

A cat on the operating table being neutered on world spay day

The fourth Tuesday in February is World Spay Day, an initiative Doris Day’s Animal League started in 1995. Concerned that overcrowded shelters euthanize over fourteen million animals annually in the USA alone, the League decided to tackle the problem at its source.

Animal rights organizations such as PETA endorse World Spay Day. They share our concern that millions of cats and dogs are born on the streets of cities worldwide.

Large populations of stray animals in cities are forced to eke out a miserable existence and inevitably become a nuisance. We don’t think it’s right to euthanize animals born into these circumstances and agree with the Animal League. The best solution is to tackle the problem at its source.

Ask your vet if they participate in Word Spay Day, discuss neutering your cat, and contact a local cat charity to ask how you can help.
